Wolfsburg Names Club Legend as Interim Sporting Managing Director

VfL Wolfsburg has appointed club legend Diego Benaglio to serve as sporting managing director on an interim basis for at least the remainder of the season, following the dismissal of Peter Christiansen.

The decision was announced by the club's supervisory board chairman, Sebastian Rudolph, at a press conference. Benaglio, who has been a member of the supervisory board since summer 2025, will assume additional responsibilities to align more closely with the team, the new head coach Dieter Hecking, sporting director Pirmin Schwegler, and the players and staff.

Benaglio, a former Wolfsburg goalkeeper, made 321 appearances for the club from 2008 to 2017 and helped Wolfsburg win the Bundesliga title in 2009.
