Coach Eugen Polanski confirmed during a pre-match press conference on Thursday that the 27-year-old defender will be sidelined due to a muscle fiber tear incurred during his team’s 3-1 victory over 1. FC Köln prior to the international break.
Marvin Friedrich is likely to start in Sander’s position in the defense, having replaced him during the match against Köln. Alternatively, Polanski may choose to reposition Joe Scally from his wing-back role into the back three or switch to a four-man defensive line.
