Bayern München began 2025 with a narrow 1-0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, maintaining their four-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.
The match, held at Borussia-Park, saw Bayern dominate possession but struggle to create clear opportunities in the first half. Vincent Kompany's side had a notable chance when Leon Goretzka shot wide in the 19th minute, followed by a close-range effort from Thomas Müller that was expertly saved by Gladbach's Moritz Nicolas in the 23rd minute.
Despite Bayern's control, Borussia Mönchengladbach did not generate any opportunities in the first half. However, they posed a threat shortly after halftime when Tim Kleindienst headed over the goal.
Bayern continued to press, and after Nicolas denied Leroy Sané with another impressive save, the breakthrough came in the 66th minute. The referee awarded a penalty after Lukas Ulrich fouled Michael Olise, and Harry Kane converted the spot-kick to make it 1-0.
Sané had a chance to extend the lead in the 71st minute but missed an open goal and was substituted shortly thereafter. Bayern had further opportunities to secure the win, including a counterattack in the 87th minute where Alphonso Davies' effort was saved by Nicolas, and a stoppage-time chance for Serge Gnabry that also failed to find the net.
The match concluded with Bayern securing a 1-0 victory, a result that strengthens their position in the league against a resilient opponent.
