RB Leipzig's chief executive Tatjana Haenni said the club aims to be ready to challenge for the Bundesliga title if Bayern Munich falters, stressing that Leipzig must be perfectly positioned the moment the dominant club is not at its best.
Bayern Munich secured their 35th Bundesliga title with a 4-2 win over VfB Stuttgart, extending their run to 13 championships in 14 seasons.
Their success has been underscored by Leverkusen breaking the run to win the 2023/24 title, while Dortmund previously spoiled the title race by dropping points on the final day in 2022/23.
Haenni indicated the opportunity to win could arise when Bayern are not at their peak, and said Leipzig intends to develop its DNA and preparation to seize the moment.
She said the club aims to regularly finish in the top four domestically and ideally be competitive internationally, noting that achieving that form could make a championship attainable.
Leipzig's immediate focus is finishing in the top four to secure a spot in the Champions League, after missing out in the previous campaign; a CL qualification is framed as crucial for the club's financial and sporting plan.
Currently third in the table with four games remaining, Leipzig sit five points ahead of Hoffenheim in fifth place.
The possibility of not qualifying could force significant player sales this summer, due to the sizable financial gap between the Champions League and non-qualification.
One of the season's notable stories has been the rapid rise of Yan Diomande, a 19-year-old winger whose development has drawn interest from European clubs; Leipzig intends to keep him beyond the summer, with decisions on transfers handled by the sporting director and the head coach.
Diomande has scored in two consecutive games and could again play a key role in Leipzig's bid for a top-four finish against Union Berlin in the next match.
