Undav expresses frustration over continually needing to justify his Germany World Cup prospects

Deniz Undav has expressed frustration at needing to continually prove himself as he weighs his chances of making Germany’s World Cup squad. He highlighted his goal contributions for VfB Stuttgart this season, noting 18 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, which equates to a high involvement in goals this campaign.

Despite his strong form, Undav’s place in the national team remains far from guaranteed. He told Sky Germany that he would prefer to be selected if it were his decision, and he stressed that time remains before the squad is announced to further demonstrate his case on the pitch.

Germany’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann described the centre-forward position as a “construction site we have to fix” in a recent interview with Kicker, while implying he knows what Undav could bring if called up. Undav said he has not spoken with the coach since the winter break, emphasizing that his on-field performances are his best argument for selection.

Undav has scored three goals in six appearances for Germany so far.
