VAR farce erupts as Australian star becomes FA Cup hero in 117-year first, after “worst decision I’ve seen” claims

Norwich City’s new signing Mohamed Toure scored on his FA Cup debut to help the Championship side secure a 3-1 victory over West Brom. Coming on as a substitute, the 21-year-old Australian headed in during stoppage time, bringing his goal tally to five in three matches since joining from Randers for around $5 million. He continues a rapid-fire start that includes a midweek hat-trick against Oxford.

Norwich’s manager highlighted Toure’s humble and introverted personality, saying he does not need extensive management and has shown focus and hunger to improve. Toure echoed optimistic sentiments, expressing that playing in England has long been a dream and he intends to enjoy the experience at Norwich.

In other FA Cup action, Newcastle United beat 10-man Aston Villa 3-1, with Sandro Tonali netting twice and Nick Woltemade adding a late goal to reach the fifth round. Villa’s red card for goalkeeper Marco Bizot in the first half significantly influenced the match, while Tammy Abraham scored for Villa.

Separately, Manchester City defeated Salford 2-0, with Marc Guehi scoring his first goal for City since transferring from Crystal Palace, as the Premier League leaders progressed. Earlier, Burnley’s upset bid fell short against Mansfield, who won 2-1, and West Ham advanced past Burton Albion 1-0 after extra time, with Crysencio Summerville scoring for the visitors.

Other results included Southampton’s 2-1 win over Leicester and Aston Villa’s 1-3 defeat to Newcastle. The round also featured a notable performance by Leeds’ Salford side, who, despite their low-tier status, remain in contention for further upsets as the competition progresses.
