Ange Addresses Inquiry on the Value of Spurs' High-Profile Players

Ange Postecoglou has defended his Tottenham Hotspur team amid suggestions that they might disrespect their upcoming FA Cup opponents, Tamworth, in their forthcoming match.

Ahead of the FA Cup Third Round tie against the fifth-tier team, Postecoglou emphasized that his players are “human beings” rather than just “multi-million dollar players.” He stated, “They are very understanding, they are good people, so they would never go to a place like that and disrespect it.” He added that many of his players have come from similar, if not worse, backgrounds than those of Tamworth.

Tamworth, currently positioned 16th in the National League, has struggled in recent matches, winning only once in their last five games. Postecoglou acknowledged that the facilities at Tamworth differ significantly from those at Spurs, which boasts some of the best training grounds and stadiums in Europe. However, he assured that his team would show the utmost respect for the occasion.

The FA Cup, known for its history of upsets, has seen lower-tier teams eliminate higher-ranked opponents in the past. Postecoglou noted that while many outsiders may hope for an upset, his team is focused on securing progression to the next round. “There is something for us to win and that’s to get into the next round of the FA Cup,” he stated.

Despite criticism regarding his tactical flexibility, Postecoglou expressed confidence in his team’s approach, asserting that they are treating the match with the same seriousness as other competitions. A victory against Tamworth would follow a recent League Cup semi-final win over Liverpool, which provided a much-needed boost amidst inconsistent form.

Although Spurs face injury concerns, with nine first-team players unavailable, Postecoglou hinted at potential opportunities to rest key players while maintaining competitive performance. He noted that the presence of emerging talents and available midfielders allows for strategic player management.

Postecoglou remains optimistic about his squad's potential for a strong FA Cup run once they regain full strength. “We want to stay in the competition and once we get to that moment where we have the squad we need, hopefully we can make an impact in it,” he concluded.
