Manchester City’s hearing regarding 115 alleged breaches of Premier League rules has concluded, but a verdict is not expected until 2025, according to reports on Monday.
The closing arguments in the case, which began on September 16 at London’s International Dispute Resolution Centre, were presented to an independent panel on Friday, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The club firmly denies any wrongdoing, facing severe sanctions if found guilty, including the possibility of relegation from the Premier League.
Last season, Everton and Nottingham Forest received points deductions for violations of the league’s profit and sustainability regulations.
Manchester City is accused of 80 breaches of financial rules from 2009 to 2018, additionally facing 35 counts of failing to cooperate with a Premier League investigation.
Since their takeover by Sheikh Mansour from the United Arab Emirates royal family in 2008, Manchester City has become a dominant force in English football, winning eight of the last 13 Premier League titles and securing a record four consecutive league crowns in the last four seasons.
The club also achieved its first Champions League title in 2023. However, these accomplishments have been overshadowed by the ongoing controversy related to the charges.
Despite the accusations, the club has consistently maintained its innocence and is determined to clear its name.
The Premier League initiated the charges in February 2023, and the lengthy process has led to a significant wait for the independent commission to address the case.
The allegations against City include the failure to provide accurate financial information regarding revenue from sponsors and the salaries of managers and players between 2009 and 2018, as well as breaches of UEFA and Premier League financial sustainability regulations.
Should the commission find City guilty of any charges, the club is expected to appeal, which could further postpone any sanctions.
On the field, Manchester City is currently experiencing a downturn, with only one victory in their last nine games across all competitions.
