Liverpool Manager's Playful Remark Towards Man City as Salah Suggests Significant Future Plans

Arne Slot humorously remarked that Mohamed Salah might have insider knowledge regarding Manchester City's situation amid allegations of financial rule breaches in the Premier League. This comment followed Salah's suggestion that he may have played his final game at Anfield against City.

Manchester City is currently facing 115 charges related to these alleged breaches, which could result in severe penalties, including potential relegation from the Premier League.

Salah, whose contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the season, has been the subject of intense speculation regarding his future. After Liverpool's 2-0 victory over City, Salah indicated that the match might have been his last home appearance against the reigning champions, who have claimed six of the last seven Premier League titles.

“Probably until now this is the last City game I will play for Liverpool so I was just going to enjoy it,” Salah stated to Sky Sports following the match. He expressed his enjoyment of the atmosphere at Anfield and hopes for the team to win the league.

Slot, whose team has achieved 18 victories in 20 matches this season, has skillfully avoided discussions about the expiring contracts of Salah, captain Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. In response to Salah's comments, Slot quipped, “Maybe Mo knows more about the 115 charges, so he expects them not to be in the Premier League next season.” He added that he expects City to remain in the league and reiterated that his remarks were intended as a joke.

City, having lost six of their last seven matches in all competitions, firmly denies the charges against them.

Liverpool currently leads the Premier League, nine points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, and will face mid-table Newcastle on Wednesday. Slot, in his first season at Anfield after succeeding Jurgen Klopp, emphasized the hard work his team has put in to achieve their success.

“If we would have done this by just playing on 50 percent and it’s so easy for us, then they might feel, ‘Ah, we’re just too good for this league’,” he stated. He noted that the team must work diligently against all opponents, regardless of their stature in the league.

Slot also mentioned that his players are not becoming complacent with their impressive start to the season, as success is part of the club's culture. “This club, this team, these players are used to the fact that they are top of the league or they are competing for every trophy,” he concluded.
