A rising defender for FC Augsburg, Noahkai Banks, has not set a deadline for deciding whether to represent the United States or Germany at the international level.
After playing for the United States at youth levels, Banks, a dual national, has left open the possibility of switching allegiance to Germany at senior level.
The 19-year-old is seen as having a real chance to make the U.S. squad for the World Cup, but he said he does not want the tournament to pressure him into a hasty decision, stressing that he is taking time to consider his options.
He told Kicker that there is no deadline and that he wants to base his career on more than a single tournament, noting he has a long road ahead.
According to Kicker, Augsburg would prefer Banks to represent the United States at the World Cup, as it could enhance his market value.
This season, Banks has become a regular defender for Augsburg, making 20 appearances.
