The German international recently shared that his former teammates at Bayern Munich congratulated him on his summer transfer to Newcastle United.
In September, Bayern Munich's management, specifically Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, criticized Newcastle for paying what he termed a hefty price for VfB Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade.
In an interview with BILD, the player expressed relief that he chose not to publicly comment on the situation, noting that his Bayern teammates had positive reactions regarding his move.
"My teammates commented on it, I didn't. I think that was the right thing to do. A lot was made of my name, Bayern, and transfer fee during the summer; that was the story of the summer," he stated.
The player acknowledged the headlines that referred to Newcastle as "idiots" for their spending but clarified that he did not find Rummenigge's statement to be overly dramatic.
“When I arrived at the national team, everyone congratulated me. Bayern players also congratulated me. When they see a player taking a step forward, you get congratulations,” he added, emphasizing that there were no negative comments from Bayern players regarding his transfer, especially considering his unique circumstances.
