Liverpool delivered a commanding performance, defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 5–1 in a Champions League match. New signing Florian Wirtz made a significant impact by providing his first two assists for the team.
The match marked a challenging experience for Frankfurt fans, as their team struggled against Liverpool, who secured a decisive victory after facing difficulties in recent league matches.
Initially, Frankfurt took the lead with a goal from right-back Kristensen. However, Liverpool quickly regained control, scoring multiple goals to ensure a much-needed win.
Frankfurt's defensive errors were evident, as they conceded goals that were described as “too easy” and largely unnecessary. In contrast, Wirtz's performance stood out, potentially marking a turning point in his integration with the club.
In the first half, Frankfurt began positively, with Bahoya creating an early chance. Despite testing Liverpool's goalkeeper Michael Zetterer, Frankfurt was unable to maintain their momentum. A misjudgment from Wirtz allowed Frankfurt to counterattack, resulting in Kristensen's goal that initially put them ahead.
However, Liverpool equalized in the 34th minute through Hugo Ekitiké, a former Frankfurt player. Shortly after, captain Virgil van Dijk scored from a corner, giving Liverpool a 2-1 lead. Ibrahima Konaté extended the advantage to 3-1 before halftime, capitalizing on another corner.
In the second half, Frankfurt's struggles continued as they failed to mount significant counterattacks. Liverpool's dominance was evident, culminating in a goal from Cody Gakpo, assisted by Wirtz, in the 66th minute, bringing the score to 4-1. Just three minutes later, Dominik Szoboszlai added another goal from outside the box, sealing the match at 5-1.
Despite Liverpool's attempts to score again, the match concluded with Frankfurt relieved to hear the final whistle, marking a disappointing evening for the home side.
