New Forest CEO Criticizes Fashionistas as Cleanup Efforts Commence Following Major Layoffs

Sean Dyche emphasized the need for Nottingham Forest to return to fundamental principles as he aims to rectify a poor start to the season, which has already seen the dismissals of Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou.

Dyche is set to make his managerial debut against Porto in the Europa League on Thursday, marking a return to the City Ground where he began his playing career nearly 40 years ago.

The former Burnley and Everton manager has faced criticism for his direct playing style, which some have deemed lacking in flair. However, such tactics have gained popularity in the Premier League this season, with long throw-ins and direct kicks becoming more common.

“I have seen enough fashionistas come in and out of this division,” Dyche stated. “You’ve got to win the games, it’s as simple as that. Long ball, short ball? You’ve just got to play effective football. That will never go out of fashion.”

Nottingham Forest attempted to shift from Nuno’s conservative counter-attacking strategy to a more aggressive approach under Postecoglou, who was dismissed after just 40 days without a win in eight matches.

After finishing seventh last season and qualifying for Europe for the first time in 30 years, Forest currently finds itself in the Premier League relegation zone, having secured only one point from their initial two Europa League matches.

Dyche remarked on the need for stabilization within the team, stating, “It still needs the basics put back into the team from my point of view, because they have lost sight of that a little bit.”

He also noted that Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is realistic about the club's situation and understands that Premier League survival is now the primary focus for the season. “He’s well aware of the challenges,” Dyche added. “I don’t think he thinks it’s a gimme just because of last season.”
