Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has expressed disappointment following his team's 2-0 defeat to Slovakia, criticizing their lack of fight during the match.
In a post-match interview, Nagelsmann conveyed his frustration over the players' performance, stating that the team failed to demonstrate the necessary intensity on the pitch.
He remarked, “The whole team didn’t deliver. The performance was very poor. The opponent was far superior to us in terms of intensity – and then their quality shows. If we can’t get that right, we might as well give up." He further added, "I don’t even have an explanation for this at the moment. Everyone should understand that we’re going to the World Cup and want to play a strong role there."
Nagelsmann emphasized the need for a shift in focus, suggesting that the team may benefit from prioritizing players who exhibit more intensity over technical quality. “I have confidence in my players, but this won’t work with the handbrake on,” he stated.
Looking ahead, Nagelsmann and the German team are set to face Northern Ireland on Sunday, seeking to improve their performance.
