SV Elversberg 2025/26 Season Overview: Emphasizing Stability for the Reformed Saarland Club

SV 07 Elversberg is preparing for its 2025-26 campaign, reflecting on a previous season filled with highs and a disappointing end. The club, known for its all-white kit and dubbed ‘Real Elversberg,’ managed to secure a play-off spot for Bundesliga promotion after a strong finish in the 2024-25 season, achieving four wins and five draws. However, their promotion bid ended in heartbreak against FC Heidenheim in a thrilling two-legged play-off.

The first leg saw both teams exchange goals, and the second leg concluded with a dramatic last-minute goal from Heidenheim, leaving Elversberg just short of promotion.

In terms of transfers, Elversberg lost key players Fisnik Allsani, Muhammed Damar, and Elias Baum, who returned to their parent clubs after successful loan spells. The club also generated approximately €2.2 million from the sales of midfielders Semih Sahin and Robin Fellhauer. The departure of left-back Maurice Neubauer to Hannover 96 on a free transfer further compounds their challenges.

On the recruitment front, Elversberg has focused on young talent, bringing in loanees Jarzinho Malanga and Bambase Conté, as well as left-back Lasse Günther. Additionally, Amara Condé and Felix Keidel were acquired for a combined fee of €800,000. Experienced players Jan Gyamerah and Luca Pfeiffer have also joined the squad, with Pfeiffer having a notable scoring record in the 2.Bundesliga.

Following the departure of coach Horst Steffen to Werder Bremen, Vincent Wagner has taken over the managerial role. The team began pre-season training in late June, with mixed results in friendly matches, including a draw against Eintracht Trier and losses to PSV Eindhoven and TSG Hoffenheim. The pre-season will conclude with a match against Fortuna Sittard.

The potential starting lineup for the upcoming season is expected to follow a 4-2-3-1 formation, featuring goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof and a defense led by Gyamerah, Pinckert, Le Joncour, and Günther. The midfield will likely include Carlo Sickinger and Condé, while Lukas Petkov, Conté, and Malanga will support striker Luca Schnellbacher.

Looking ahead, the prospects for the 2025-26 season appear challenging for Elversberg. With significant departures from the squad and a new coach, the likelihood of another promotion bid seems slim. Aiming for stability, the club hopes to avoid relegation and achieve a mid-table finish, with a target of placing between 9th and 12th in the league.
