Borussia Mönchengladbach's sporting director Roland Virkus expressed a strong commitment to retaining defender Ko Itakura at the club for the long term.
Itakura, who is under contract until 2026, has been the subject of transfer rumors, notably with PSV showing interest last summer. Despite these speculations, he remained with the team.
In an interview with Sport1, Virkus stated that the club is optimistic about extending Itakura's contract. "We will do everything we can," he affirmed, while noting that discussions are ongoing.
However, he added that he cannot confirm whether Itakura will agree to an extension. "We can go to a certain point and if that's not enough, we'll have to find another Itakura," he explained.
Virkus also emphasized that a winter transfer is not being considered and mentioned that there is still ample time before the summer window opens.
