United Secures Top Coaching Target as Announcement Approaches

Ruben Amorim is anticipated to be confirmed as Manchester United’s new manager on Thursday following an agreement reached with Sporting Lisbon, according to various reports.

The Athletic has stated that the 39-year-old will continue with Sporting for their upcoming three matches, including the Champions League encounter against Manchester City next week.

Amorim is expected to officially take over at Old Trafford during the November international break, with his inaugural match scheduled as an away fixture against Ipswich on November 24.

Sir David Brailsford, Ineos’ director of sport, seemed to validate Amorim's appointment in a video that surfaced on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. He was heard saying, “Yeah, It’s done. It’s done,” to fans after taking photographs outside Old Trafford.

In response to fans' inquiries, Brailsford confirmed, “The deal is done, he said it.”

Sky Sports reported that Manchester United has reportedly paid Sporting an additional one million euros beyond Amorim's 10 million euro ($11 million) exit clause for an earlier release.

Sporting Lisbon issued a statement to the Lisbon stock exchange on Tuesday, confirming that United was willing to meet the release clause.

The club terminated Erik ten Hag's two-year managerial tenure on Monday after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham left United in 14th position in the Premier League.

Amorim quickly became United’s top candidate for the role.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, the caretaker manager, guided the team to a 5-2 victory over Leicester in the fourth round of the League Cup on Wednesday. He stated, “I came here as an assistant to help the club. I’m helping as long as I’m needed and in the future, in any capacity, I’m here to help the club build towards the future.”

Despite significant investments in the summer transfer market, Ten Hag was dismissed due to United's poor start to the season, having won only one of their last eight games in all competitions prior to the victory against Leicester.
