Manchester United has announced the dismissal of manager Erik ten Hag following a disappointing start to the season, with the club currently positioned 14th in the Premier League standings.
The decision comes after the team suffered its fourth defeat in nine league matches against West Ham on Sunday, managing to secure only one victory in their last eight games across all competitions.
A club statement confirmed, “Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.”
Ten Hag, who was appointed in April 2022, led the club to two domestic trophies, including the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. The statement expressed gratitude for his contributions, wishing him well for the future.
Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as the interim head coach, supported by the current coaching staff, while the club seeks a permanent replacement.
Prior to the loss against West Ham, Ten Hag had overseen the club's worst start to an English top-flight campaign since the 1989/90 season. His position had been under scrutiny in recent weeks, especially after United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe opted to retain him following the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in May.
Further updates are anticipated.
