VfB Stuttgart's head coach Sebastian Hoeneß announced at a press conference on Monday that defender Julian Chabot will not participate in the upcoming DFB Pokal match against 1. FC Kaiserslautern due to a muscular injury. Although Chabot is eligible to play despite a league suspension, he will remain sidelined for the fixture.
Hoeneß confirmed that back-up goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow will start in place of regular starter Alexander Nübel, who will be rested after his recent commitments with the German national team. Bredlow has yet to make an appearance for Stuttgart this season, including in the first round of the Pokal.
In discussing the defensive lineup, Hoeneß stated, “With Anto, Anrie and Ramon, we still have three central defenders available. Two of them will play. Ameen Al-Dakhil is not yet an option for the starting XI.”
Hoeneß expressed confidence in Bredlow’s abilities, stating, “We’re happy to have a really strong number 2 in Fabi. He trains well, is in really good form at the moment, and has always shown that he is there when he is needed. That’s why we are giving him the opportunity to perform.”
