West Ham moved out of the Premier League relegation zone with a 4-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Tottenham dropped into the bottom three after the result on Friday.
Konstantinos Mavropanos opened the scoring with a header in the first half, and Valentin Castellanos added a brace in the second period as West Ham extended their survival bid. The win also lifted West Ham two points above Tottenham, who remain at risk of relegation.
In the closing stages, Mavropanos added a second goal, sealing the rout and pushing Wolves further toward relegation, with the result marking an ironic twist as the defender helped his former club’s rivals.
Tottenham sit in the relegation zone and would climb out with a win at Sunderland, in a match that could shape the rest of the season for both clubs with seven games remaining.
Wolves, bottom of the table and 15 points from safety with six games left, were unable to recover after an ineffective display following a 25-day break due to international duties and their FA Cup exit.
