Jonas Urbig Discusses Potentially Following Neuer’s Path at Bayern

Jonas Urbig has discussed his potential role as Bayern Munich’s next first-choice goalkeeper, following the anticipated retirement of Manuel Neuer. With Neuer possibly retiring at the end of this season or in 2027, Urbig is widely viewed as the leading candidate to succeed him.

In a Sky Germany interview, the 22-year-old spoke about what it would mean to follow a goalkeeper of Neuer’s stature, emphasizing that the decision rests with the club and not himself. He said he can influence his own preparation, mindset, and performance to meet the demands of a club of Bayern’s size.

Urbig highlighted his mental readiness and consistency, noting his aim to be prepared and available when needed, and to deliver on the pitch. He has already made 14 appearances for Bayern in the 2025/26 season, during Neuer’s absence due to injuries.
