Roma moved into the Europa League's top eight with a 2-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart at the Stadio Olimpico, a result that strengthens their position ahead of the final round of fixtures. Stuttgart remained in the play-off positions following the defeat.
Stuttgart began with intent, with Maximilian Mittelstädt testing the Roma defense early and Jamie Leweling forcing a save from the goalkeeper as the visitors sought control. Roma grew into the game, with Matias Soule creating chances as the hosts pressed for a first-half breakthrough.
The opener arrived five minutes before the break when Soule delivered an incisive outside-foot pass into the channel for Nicolo Pisilli, who finished into the corner past the keeper. In the second half, Stuttgart again pressed, with Deniz Undav forcing a one-on-one save shortly after the restart, but Roma extended their lead in stoppage time when Pisilli struck again after a setup from Paulo Dybala.
Undav and Demirovic continued to threaten for Stuttgart, but Ndicka cleared a late effort and Roma held on for the win. Stuttgart drop to 11th and now face Young Boys on the final day; a victory would have secured an automatic round-of-16 spot, though they will need results elsewhere to progress.
