Shock rumblings have emerged that Cole Palmer is unsettled at his club, with a return to Manchester on the cards. Reports in England claim the 23-year-old could re-join Manchester City or make a cross-town move to Manchester United.
Palmer left his hometown club in 2023, joining Chelsea in a 79 million AUD deal, and has since been regarded as one of the Premier League’s top players. While his start at Stamford Bridge was strong, injuries have hampered him this season and reports say he is not particularly enjoying life down south.
One report suggests that if Pep Guardiola departs City and former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is installed, Palmer could return to Manchester City. Maresca has been linked as a potential replacement for Guardiola.
There have been multiple links to Manchester United, the club Palmer supported growing up. A former coach who worked under Sir Alex Ferguson suggested Palmer could join United if Mauricio Pochettino becomes manager, amid ongoing speculation over the club’s next boss after Ruben Amorim’s name-D recipients, with Michael Carrick serving as interim manager.
According to the former coach, Palmer would be a strong fit for Manchester United and could be attracted by the way they should be playing, given his qualities as a difference maker. He noted Palmer’s boyhood-supporter status for United and questioned why the club did not pursue him earlier.
Sky Sports also reported that Palmer could be willing to return to Manchester despite his current contract running until the end of the 2033 season.
