After Bayern Munich’s 2–1 home defeat to Augsburg, manager Vincent Kompany remained calm and urged his squad to respond, reflecting on a challenging schedule and the team’s ongoing resilience.
“This result is for the people who always knew that the Bundesliga is not easy, and that every game is risky,” Kompany said.
“We were stable in the first half, without a lot of creativity. It was a game where you say: okay, we played five games in 13 days — maybe we get a result today without a spectacular performance.”
He added that he was more disappointed with the result than the performance, noting Bayern were in a good position and “gave it away,” and that they could not bring the same energy in the second half. He paid tribute to Augsburg and said the team must now show a reaction.
The loss ended Bayern’s hopes of an invincible season, but Kompany downplayed the milestone, saying he would be content if the team continued to win titles and be successful, even without remaining unbeaten for another lengthy period.
Kompany also addressed injury challenges stemming from the hectic schedule, explaining that with seven games in 20 days, an absence of a week can lead to missing three matches and that returning players need time to regain full fitness.
He stressed there were no long-term injuries and urged the team to fight and avoid making excuses.
With the title race tightening, Bayern must regroup quickly, drawing lessons from Augsburg’s resilience and planning for upcoming fixtures.
