Jürgen Klopp has reiterated that he is not interested in taking the vacant coaching role at a major Spanish club after the dismissal of Xabi Alonso, and he remains content in his current position as Head of Global Soccer for a global sports group.
Since being appointed to that role at the start of 2025, Klopp has repeatedly been linked with a return to coaching.
Reports had suggested the club viewed him as a candidate to take over in the summer following Alonso's departure, with an interim appointment made by Álvaro Arbeloa.
“As a person, I’m completely at peace with where I am,” Klopp said. “I don’t want to be somewhere else. I don’t get excited if, whatever, they show interest. If they would – but it’s just the media.”
Throughout his coaching career, Klopp has always decided for himself when it is time to move on. In his current role, though, he says he is only just getting started.
“I was always happy where I was until I wasn’t. But it took time. I could say I was always happy, and then after four days I could say it’s not great here. But I know myself; I’m consistent, I don’t change my mind overnight – these kinds of things. Things grow. I can’t say ‘never, never, never.’”
Having won almost every major trophy as a coach, Klopp says he has no pressing motivation to return to coaching. He adds that he wanted to do something different and that the organization gave him the opportunity to shape a role that evolves with the work they do together.
He keeps a small door open for the future, saying he does not know what he will think in five years or two to three years, and cannot rule out coaching again, but for now he is very happy with what he is doing and does not feel the need to place himself in the spotlight.
“If I feel it, I go again.”
