Hannover secured back-to-back 2. Bundesliga wins with a 2-1 victory over Magdeburg, a club that Christian Titz previously led.
There was almost a ten-minute delay at kickoff due to pyrotechnics by Hannover’s traveling supporters; once play resumed, the visitors were more lively than the hosts.
A long ball from Hannover's goalkeeper Nahuel Noll started the move that saw Daisuke Yokota round Magdeburg’s goalkeeper, but the Japanese winger initially missed the chance to score in back-to-back games.
Yokota did score later in the first half, his fourth of the season, after Benjamin Källman unselfishly set up the goal, while Magdeburg’s Mateusz Å»ukowski had two clear-cut opportunities go begging.
Baris Atik leveled for Hannover early in the second half, but Enzo Leopold restored Hannover’s lead within three minutes as the end-to-end contest continued, with both teams hitting the woodwork after the break.
Before the top-four teams play their matchday 20 fixtures, Hannover narrowed the gap to four points behind league leaders Schalke.
It was the first away win for Christian Titz’s team since a 2-0 success in Paderborn in November, and Magdeburg could drop into the bottom three after back-to-back defeats.
