Preview: Eintracht Frankfurt Aims to End Winless Run Against Bayer Leverkusen

Eintracht Frankfurt will look to end a seven-game winless run when they host Bayer Leverkusen at Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday.

Interim coach Dennis Schmitt has not managed to spark an upturn since taking temporary charge after the dismissal of Dino Toppmöller earlier this month, starting with a 3-2 defeat to Qarabag in the Champions League and followed by a 3-1 loss to Hoffenheim at home last weekend.

Frankfurt then suffered another setback in their final Champions League group stage game, losing 2-0 to Tottenham, with former forward Randal Kolo Muani netting for Spurs. That result leaves them with seven consecutive competitive matches without a win since beating Augsburg on December 13.

With the Champions League campaign over, the focus shifts to securing European football for next season. They have 27 points from 19 league games, sit eighth, and are five points adrift of the top six ahead of the weekend’s fixtures.

Leverkusen, occupying sixth place, will provide a tough test; a win would boost Frankfurt’s European hopes. The visitors have not lost to Frankfurt since their 5-1 victory in October 2022.

Team news for Frankfurt: Can Uzun will miss a second successive game after injury, with Elias Baum, Younes Ebnoutalib and Jonathan Burkardt also unavailable. Predicted lineup: Kauã; Collins, Koch, Theate; Kristensen, Shkhiri, Larsson, Brown; Doan, Götze, Kalimuendo.

Leverkusen arrive with injuries to Mark Flekken, Nathan Tella and Eliesse Ben Seghir, and Loïc Badé is suspended for one match due to yellow-card accumulation. Predicted lineup: Blaswich; Quansah, Andrich, Tapsoba; Vázquez, Aleix García, Maza, Grimaldo; Tillman, Poku, Schick.
