Elversberg defeated Kaiserslautern 3-1 away from home at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion in a 2. Bundesliga match.
B oth teams showed early intent in front of a raucous Betzenberg crowd, with Kaiserslautern threatening around the 20-minute mark as Paul Joly struck the post. The hosts also saw Ivan Prtajin, recently back from injury, withdraw with an ankle problem shortly before half-time.
In stoppage time of the first half, Elversberg were awarded a penalty after Leon Robinson fouled Rohr; Robinson was sent off and Lukas Petkov converted to give the visitors the lead. Moments later, an own goal by Rohr deflected a shot from Naatan Skyttä into his own net to send the teams level at the break.
Elversberg tackled the second half with purpose and extended their lead 11 minutes in when Tom Zimmerschied cut the ball back from the byline for Mokwa, who struck his first Elversberg goal on just his third start.
Kaiserslautern, reduced to ten men, pressed for an equaliser but could not find one. The visitors sealed the points in the 86th minute when Petkov won the ball high up the pitch and set up Luca Schnellbacher to finish.
The result lifts Elversberg into second place, ahead of Darmstadt's match tomorrow, while Kaiserslautern stay sixth.
