Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw by Hamburger SV at Volksparkstadion, with Vincent Kompany making his return to the venue for the visitors.
HSV fashioned the early chances, with a deflected effort from Fabio Vieira and Luka VuÅ¡ković’s header from a corner among the opening opportunities.
The hosts began to dominate after the ten-minute mark as concerns arose over challenges from Daniel Elfadli and Nicolás Capaldo, including a potential last-man foul on Harry Kane, though the referee deemed no foul was committed.
Manuel Neuer contributed a notable moment outside the box before parrying Capaldo’s effort at the other end as the lively opening continued, with Joshua Kimmich excelling for Bayern.
Kimmich struck the crossbar and Bayern then conceded a penalty for a foul on Nicolai Remberg. Albert Lokonga appeared to take the kick, butCredit was given to Fábio Vieira, who converted from the spot despite Neuer guessing correctly.
Less than ten minutes after going behind, Bayern leveled through Kane, who finished from a cutback by Kimmich in a crowded box, lifting Bayern’s performance after the stoppage in the match.
At halftime Kompany rotated his side, bringing Luiz Diaz on in place of an out-of-form Karl, and Diaz needed less than a minute to put the visitors ahead after a quick attack following Bayern’s best move of the night, with the assist coming from Olise for his 16th of the season.
HSV remained competitive, as Vieira missed a glorious chance and Luka Vušković headed home from a William Mikelbrencis cross to restore parity and bring his fourth Bundesliga goal.
Bayern pressed for a late winner but were denied by a goalline clearance from Alphonso Davies after a Vieira effort, and a 90th-minute, deflected attempt by Jamal Musiala offered Bayern a final hope, while Elmadli was involved in the earlier incident that sparked appeals for a handball.
With Dortmund able to close the gap to six points if they beat Heidenheim, HSV sat one point above Mainz in the relegation zone but could take heart from a strong display. Bayern head to Hoffenheim next week before a cup tie with RB Leipzig, and HSV travel to Heidenheim in their following fixture.
