Boniface Undergoes Surgery as Leverkusen and Werder Await Results

Victor Boniface's future with Werder Bremen is uncertain as medical professionals have recommended knee surgery, which could potentially end his season prematurely.

Reports indicate that doctors in Leverkusen have advised that an operation may be the most effective course of action for Boniface, who is expected to return by the summer of 2026. The option of surgery was initially considered in August, but the striker chose to forgo the procedure at that time.

If Boniface decides to undergo surgery now, it is likely that he will miss the remainder of the season, which would mean he may not play again for Werder Bremen after joining the club on loan at the end of the summer transfer window.

Despite the immediate setback, the surgery could provide a long-term solution to a recurring issue and help ensure Boniface's career at the highest level remains viable.

Discussions regarding his situation are anticipated to occur before Christmas, with Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director Simon Rolfes and Werder Bremen's head of professional football Clemens Fritz looking to reach a consensus on the next steps.

The final decision on whether to proceed with surgery will ultimately be made by Boniface, who has not scored in 11 appearances for Werder Bremen, following a successful period with Bayer Leverkusen where he netted 22 goals across two Bundesliga seasons from 2023 to 2025.
