Stuttgart Executive Prioritized Club's Interests in Woltemade Transfer

The CEO of VfB Stuttgart, Alexander Wehrle, acknowledged that there was significant internal debate regarding the decision to sell striker Nick Woltemade, who ultimately transferred to Newcastle United for a base fee of €85 million during the summer.

This transfer marked a new record for the club, and Wehrle revealed that the offer from Newcastle was carefully considered before being accepted. He stated, “Of course we discussed it. Ultimately, however, our internally defined pain threshold was exceeded, which is why we went ahead with the transfer,” as reported by Stuttgarter Nachrichten.

Wehrle emphasized that the decision to accept the offer was made in light of the overall responsibility to VfB Stuttgart, which must be taken into account during challenging decisions. He noted, "We will deal with exceptional offers – And even though the timing was very late, we must always keep the club's overall interests in mind."

Additionally, Wehrle described the summer transfer window as “extraordinary and special,” highlighting its intensity and extensive media coverage.

Reports from Sport Bild indicated that Uli Hoeneß, a member of Bayern Munich's supervisory board, played a significant role in the club's pursuit of Woltemade, while Max Eberl took a less active role in the negotiations.
