VfB Stuttgart appeared poised for a narrow victory until SC Freiburg staged a dramatic turnaround with three late goals in the south-west derby earlier today.
VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß expressed dissatisfaction with both the result and the overall performance during his post-match remarks. “For 70 minutes, we defended the first few balls very well, but as time went on, we were no longer in the game when second or third balls became dangerous,” he stated. He further emphasized that their attacking efforts fell short, saying, “The bottom line is, we didn't create enough things with the ball. We often didn't go beyond attempts.”
Club captain Atakan Karazor acknowledged the team's strong defensive efforts until the 81st minute but noted that Freiburg took control in the final stages. “We defended very well until the 81st minute, kept all set pieces away from goal, and won all the headers,” he commented. He highlighted the integration of new players into the team but pointed out the need for improvement, stating, “What can be criticized is that we didn't provide enough relief. In the end, the game turned because we weren't defending well and couldn't get the basics on the pitch. We need to analyze this carefully.”
