Borussia Dortmund's head coach, Niko Kovač, provided insights into his squad planning for the 2025/26 campaign following the team's 8-1 friendly victory over Sportfreunde Siegen.
Sky journalist Patrick Berger reported that the likelihood of signing a holding midfielder this summer appears low. Kovač stated, “We are looking and observing everything, but if you are interested - we are not looking [for a player] in this position.”
On the topic of the team's leadership, Kovač confirmed that the current captain and vice-captain trio of Emre Can, Julian Brandt, and Nico Schlotterbeck will remain unchanged. He expressed satisfaction with the choices made by his predecessors, saying, “It stays as it is. There are no reasons to change anything.”
Emre Can, who is 31 years old, has served as captain of Borussia Dortmund since late July 2023, taking over the role from Marco Reus.
