Rogier Meijer Negotiates Potential Appointment as Assistant to Ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen is in the process of appointing a second assistant coach to support newly hired manager Erik Ten Hag, with Dutch coach Rogier Meijer currently in discussions with the club.

Reports indicate that Leverkusen is eager to add the 43-year-old Meijer to their coaching staff. Should this move be finalized, he would join Andries Ulderink, who has already agreed to join Ten Hag's team following his tenure as head coach at Royal Antwerp.

Meijer recently stepped down from his role as head coach of NEC Nijmegen after five years. During his time with the club, he achieved significant milestones, including leading NEC to promotion to the Eredivisie in 2021, reaching the Dutch Cup final in 2024, and guiding the team to the Conference League play-offs in the past season.

NEC narrowly missed qualifying for the Conference League, losing in extra time to FC Twente in the semi-finals.

Following Ten Hag's confirmation in late May, Leverkusen announced that additional staff members would be appointed. This coaching restructuring comes after the departure of former assistants Sebastian Parrilla and Alberto Encinas, who joined Real Madrid with Xabi Alonso.

The potential hiring of Meijer would enhance the coaching staff's depth and bring valuable top-level coaching experience to the team as they prepare for a new regime under Ten Hag.

If Meijer joins, he will contribute both tactical expertise and significant head coaching experience to Leverkusen.
