New Sporting Director of Augsburg Appointed: Former Analyst from Dortmund, PSG, and Chelsea

FC Augsburg has officially announced the appointment of Benni Weber as its new sporting director.

The 42-year-old Weber comes to the club from SC Paderborn, where he held the position of managing director for sport. Prior to that, he worked as a video analyst for several prominent clubs, including Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea under coach Thomas Tuchel.

Michael Ströll, CEO of Augsburg, expressed satisfaction with the appointment, stating, “We are very pleased to have secured Benni Weber as our new sporting director. He has done remarkable work at Paderborn, not only achieving sporting success but also identifying and developing talented young players—five German youth internationals are testament to that. With his high-level experience and broad background, he fits perfectly with our philosophy and requirements.”

Weber conveyed his enthusiasm for the new role, saying, “I’m very excited about my role at FCA and thankful for the trust placed in me. The club’s philosophy and people convinced me quickly. I want to contribute with a strong team to further develop FCA in the coming years.”

In addition to Weber, Augsburg has made three other key appointments to strengthen its sporting department. Manuel Baum returns to the club as head of development and football innovation, Marc Lettau has joined as squad planner, and former player Julian Baumgartlinger takes on the role of coordinator of the professional player department.

Ströll commented on these appointments, stating, “We are delighted that Manuel, Marc, and Julian will join FCA. Their expertise strengthens our sporting department. With them and Benni Weber at the helm, we are very well positioned for the future.”
