St. Pauli Aims for Second Consecutive Season in Top Flight Against Bochum

St. Pauli enters the final day of the Bundesliga season needing just a point against relegated Bochum to secure their top-flight status.

A 2-2 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt has put St. Pauli in a favorable position, as they head into the last match three points clear of Heidenheim, who sit in the relegation play-off spot.

Currently tied on points with Hoffenheim, a defeat would not be catastrophic for St. Pauli; however, a positive outcome would ensure their survival in the Bundesliga for a second consecutive season, a feat not achieved since 1996.

Despite struggling offensively, having failed to score in 10 of their last 16 home matches, the prospect of survival offers the club an opportunity to reassess and strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.

In terms of team news, Abdoulie Ceesay (ankle) is set to undergo a late fitness test, while Sascha Burchert (groin), Jackson Irvine (foot), Karol Mets (knee), Elias Saad (thigh), James Sands (ankle), and Simon Zoller (muscle) are expected to miss the match.

Although no St. Pauli player has reached double-digit goals this season, Morgan Guilavogui (six goals) and Oladapo Afolayan (three goals) are anticipated to be key contributors in matchweek 34.

On the other hand, Bochum was relegated from the Bundesliga following a 4-1 loss to Mainz, who had been winless in their previous eight matches.

Bochum's failure to capitalize during a critical relegation battle against Heidenheim has left them with significant challenges as they approach the final two matchdays.

With a poor away record this season, Bochum has managed only one legitimate win on the road, a surprising 3-2 victory against Bayern München. Their other away success came when they were awarded three points after an incident involving goalkeeper Patrick Drewes.

Bochum, who struggled in the relegation play-off last season, faces a disheartening period at the Ruhrstadion.

In terms of team updates, Matus Bero (calf) remains a doubt for Bochum, who are already without Philipp Hofmann (broken rib), Tom Krauß (back), Ivan Ordets (back), and Mohammed Tolba (groin).
