Frankfurt Secures Champions League Qualification with Away Victory in Breisgau

Eintracht Frankfurt secured a crucial 3-1 victory against Freiburg on the final day of the season, ensuring their qualification for the Champions League next year.

With Borussia Dortmund scoring early against Holstein Kiel, Freiburg needed a win to secure their own Champions League spot. The home team took the lead in the 27th minute when Mathias Ginter flicked a long throw from Phillip Lienhart to Ritsu Doan, who scored from inside the box.

Frankfurt responded before halftime, with Ansgar Knauff capitalizing on a defensive error to equalize just before the break.

In the second half, Frankfurt took control, with Rasmus Kristensen scoring in the 61st minute. Shortly after, Ellyes Skhiri added a third goal following a scramble in the box, despite a lengthy VAR check that confirmed the goal.

As the match concluded, a third goal from Dortmund further diminished Freiburg's hopes. Frankfurt held on through ten minutes of injury time, marking their return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2022/23 season.

Despite the loss, Freiburg's season ended positively, securing a Europa League finish under the management of Julian Schuster.
