Dortmund Engages in Discussions to Utilize Former Player for Club World Cup

Despite discussions regarding a potential return to Borussia Dortmund for the Club World Cup, Mats Hummels has decided to retire following his tenure at Roma. Concurrently, the Black and Yellows are considering another former center-back.

Soumaïla Coulibaly, once a promising defender at Borussia Dortmund, has struggled to meet expectations for various reasons. His experience at Stade Brestois has been similarly challenging.

Coulibaly played every minute during Brest's surprising start in the Champions League, where they secured 10 points from their first four matches. However, he only featured in 7 Ligue 1 games for the Breton club, as he faced a nearly five-month absence due to a pelvic injury and adductor pain.

Although Coulibaly has not played since February, Dortmund is optimistic about registering him for the Club World Cup. The club and the defender have engaged in discussions about this possibility, as Dortmund does not plan to retain the player beyond this summer's tournament. Notably, Nico Schlotterbeck will miss the FIFA tournament due to a meniscus tear.
