Wolfsburg has announced the release of five players as part of its preparations for the upcoming season, including a former German national team player.
The most notable player among those departing is Kevin Behrens, whose contract will not be extended. Other players affected include striker Bartosz Białek, goalkeeper Niklas Klinger, and midfielder Bennit Bröger, who is reportedly set to join Paderborn next season.
Additionally, the club has terminated the contract of left-back Manuel Braun, who is currently on loan at Waldhof Mannheim until June.
This group of players has collectively participated in 19 matches for Wolfsburg this season, with Behrens alone appearing in 18 games, although he has only accumulated 142 minutes of playtime.
Behrens has been in the spotlight this season following a homophobic comment he made during an autograph signing last autumn. The club responded by fining Behrens and issuing an extended warning, after which he issued an apology for his behavior.
