Dortmund Pursues Gladbach Defender Itakura

Borussia Dortmund is reportedly interested in signing defender Ko Itakura from Borussia Mönchengladbach for the upcoming season.

Itakura, who is 28 years old, has a contract with Gladbach that runs until June 2026. However, he is seeking to advance his career, as stated by “Sport BILD.” Currently, discussions about a contract extension with Gladbach are not taking place.

Dortmund's coach, Niko Kovac, aims to bolster his squad for the next season, identifying central defense as the weakest area due to a series of injuries that have led to a rotating lineup throughout the season.

If Itakura transfers to Dortmund this summer, he would be the fourth player in the last decade to make this specific move, following Mahmoud Dahoud in 2017, Thorgan Hazard in 2019, and Ramy Bensebaini in 2023.

During the same period, two players have moved in the opposite direction: Jonas Hofmann joined Gladbach in 2016, and Matthias Ginter followed a year later.

This season, Itakura has made 31 appearances for Gladbach, and Dortmund is expected to pay approximately €12 million to secure his services through the 2025/26 season.
