Germany's leading tabloid reports that goalkeeper Matej Kovar's future at Bayer Leverkusen may be determined by his inclusion in the starting lineup for their upcoming German Cup match against Arminia Bielefeld.
During a press conference, head coach Xabi Alonso indicated that the decision regarding Kovar’s position in goal has not yet been finalized. He stated, “The lineup has not been 100% decided yet. He [Kovar] is ready to play, he trained well, so I can’t find an issue.”
Alonso acknowledged recent mistakes made by Kovar, particularly in a previous match in Munich, but emphasized that such errors should not preclude him from playing.
Speculation regarding Kovar's future has intensified, with suggestions that the 24-year-old may be considering a move away from the BayArena this summer. Leverkusen has also been linked to several potential replacements, including Freiburg’s Noah Atubolu and Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega.
