Jamie Gittens, the Borussia Dortmund winger, has reportedly undergone surgery during the international break.
Although Gittens was initially called up for England's Under-21 squad to compete against France and Portugal, he did not participate in either match. The Football Association announced that he would remain with his club for "further assessment."
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the surgery was performed on Gittens' left hand, an area he has been experiencing difficulties with for some time.
Despite the surgery, Gittens is expected to be available for Borussia Dortmund's Bundesliga match against Mainz on Sunday.
This season, the 20-year-old has made 40 appearances for the club, contributing 11 goals and four assists.
