Xabi Alonso addressed the altercation between Victor Boniface and Emiliano Buendia that occurred late in Bayer Leverkusen's 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Despite the team's successful performance, the incident between Boniface and Buendia marred the evening. The two players clashed while vying for a chance to increase the score to 5-1, resulting in a heated exchange. Boniface raised his finger at Buendia and pushed him after the midfielder responded by shaking his head.
In a post-match interview, Bayer 04 coach Xabi Alonso downplayed the incident, stating, "He (Boniface) wanted to score a goal. It's not a problem. We'll talk about it. The most important thing is the team, the performance and the result." He emphasized that showing "passion" is a normal aspect of football.
Boniface has faced challenges with playing time recently, particularly after a proposed winter transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr fell through at the last moment. He has not started in any of Leverkusen's last three matches.
