A historic moment at Everton's new $1.5 billion stadium was overshadowed when an under-18 player took the opportunity to mock the Premier League club.
The Toffees are set to move from Goodison Park, their home since 1892, to the new venue at Bramley-Moore Dock next season. However, the inaugural match took place on Monday evening.
An under-18 fixture between Everton and Wigan was the first event held at the state-of-the-art stadium, attended by 10,000 fans as part of three test events before the venue begins hosting Premier League matches.
In the 12th minute, Wigan's Harrison Rimmer scored the first goal at the new ground. During his celebration, Rimmer held up six fingers, referencing Liverpool's six European championships to taunt Everton's Merseyside rivals.
Despite Rimmer's antics and Wigan's 2-1 victory in the match, the event marked a successful launch for the stadium.
With a capacity of 52,888 spectators, the venue will become the seventh-largest in the Premier League and is also set to host matches during the 2028 Euros.
