Augsburg Captain Receives Contract Extension

FC Augsburg has confirmed the contract extension of their captain, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, ensuring his stay with the club beyond the summer.

The 33-year-old centre-back's contract, originally set to expire at the end of the season, has been extended until 2026 after an appearance clause was activated.

Gouweleeuw expressed his happiness regarding the extension, stating, "I have always said how much my family and I feel at home in Augsburg, so I’m delighted that I will continue to wear FCA colors and go into my tenth season at Augsburg." He added, “It’s not a common thing these days for a player to have such a long spell at a club. It’s something special for me and makes me very proud.”

Augsburg's sporting director, Marinko Jurendic, praised Gouweleeuw for being “a constant” presence for the club this season, noting that he “leads by example as captain.”

Jurendic further remarked, "With his dedication and performances, he has established himself as a valuable and well-respected player at FCA over the years. We’re delighted that Jeff will remain an FCA player and will continue to be a leader both on and off the pitch next season.”

Since joining Augsburg from AZ Alkmaar in January 2016, Gouweleeuw has played a total of 260 games for the club.
