Dortmund Advances to Round of 16 Following Scoreless Draw

Borussia Dortmund hosted Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League play-off second leg, which concluded in a 0-0 draw.

This result confirmed Dortmund's progression to the Champions League Round of 16, with an aggregate score of 3-0.

The match began with Sporting Lisbon adopting a defensive strategy, focusing on maintaining possession and attempting counterattacks when opportunities arose.

The first half was characterized by Dortmund's control of the game, although Sporting's absence of key players Viktor Gyökeres and Francisco Trincão limited their attacking threats and left fans frustrated.

During the first half, Rui Costa delivered a crucial save before the 60-minute mark, stopping a powerful shot from Marcel Sabitzer after he was set up by Groß and Adeyemi.

After halftime, Dortmund maintained the offensive pressure, with Karim Adeyemi prompting another excellent save from Rui Costa. Costa continued to shine, repelling a long-range attempt from Daniel Svensson shortly thereafter.

A controversial moment occurred when Costa fouled Adeyemi, leading to a penalty kick. However, Costa redeemed himself by blocking Serhou Guirassy's attempt from the spot.

Sporting Lisbon had a rare chance as Alexandro Brito sent a long-range effort wide, and subsequently, Gio Reyna nearly scored, hitting the post in the 69th minute.

Dortmund appeared to have scored when Emre Can headed in from a set-piece, but the goal was disallowed following a VAR check for offside.

A late rally from Sporting included a header by Konrad Harder that narrowly missed, but ultimately failed to change the match outcome. Dortmund secured their place in the next round, where they will face either Aston Villa or LOSC Lille.
