Arsenal Narrows Gap to League Leaders; Manchester City Newcomer Scores Hat-Trick in 14 Minutes: Premier League Summary

Arsenal overcame injury challenges to narrow the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool with a 2-0 victory against Leicester City, inspired by Mikel Merino's late goals. Meanwhile, Manchester City secured a commanding 4-0 win over Newcastle, propelled by Omar Marmoush's hat-trick.

Despite facing a depleted squad, Arsenal managed to exert pressure on Liverpool in the title race. Mikel Arteta's team struggled initially at the King Power Stadium but found their rhythm in the second half. Merino, brought on as a makeshift striker, scored twice in the final nine minutes, extending Arsenal's unbeaten league run to 15 games. His first goal came in the 81st minute from a cross by Ethan Nwaneri, followed by another in the 88th minute from a cross by Leandro Trossard, bringing Arsenal within four points of Liverpool.

Injuries to key players, including Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli, left Arsenal's attack significantly weakened. Arteta acknowledged the team's struggles in the first half but praised the improved performance after halftime.

Liverpool has the opportunity to increase their lead back to seven points with a match against Wolverhampton on Sunday.

At the Etihad Stadium, Omar Marmoush marked his arrival at Manchester City with a hat-trick against Newcastle. He opened the scoring in the 19th minute, followed by another goal shortly after, both showcasing his skill and timing. Marmoush completed his hat-trick in the 33rd minute, marking the first treble of his career. James McAtee added a fourth goal for City in the 84th minute, providing a much-needed boost following a recent Champions League defeat.

However, City faced a potential setback as striker Erling Haaland left the field with a knee injury late in the match. Pep Guardiola expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, emphasizing the pace and intensity displayed during the game.

Newcastle, now sitting seventh in the league, is three points away from the top four as they aim for a Champions League qualification spot. In other matches, Nottingham Forest lost 2-1 to Fulham, Bournemouth climbed to fifth with a 3-1 victory over Southampton, and Everton edged out Crystal Palace 2-1. Brentford secured a narrow 1-0 win against West Ham.
