Ange Postecoglou stated that Tottenham Hotspur's ambition is to ensure Son Heung-min concludes his career with the club by winning a trophy, following the decision to extend the captain's contract until 2026.
Son Heung-min, a 32-year-old South Korean forward, joined the Premier League club in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen. Since then, he has made 431 appearances and scored 169 goals, placing him fourth on Tottenham’s all-time scoring list.
Named club captain in August 2023, Son shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Liverpool's Mohamed Salah during the 2021/22 season after netting 23 goals. However, Tottenham has not secured a major trophy since winning the League Cup in 2008.
In addition to his club role, Son captains the South Korean national team, boasting 51 goals in 131 international appearances. In the current season, he has scored seven goals across all competitions for a Tottenham side currently positioned 12th in the Premier League.
In related transfer news, reports indicate that Tottenham is actively pursuing a loan deal for Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window. Manchester United is also reported to be interested in the forward, who joined PSG from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023 for €90 million.
Additionally, Tottenham, which has been plagued by injuries, will face Liverpool in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
