Amad Diallo scored a remarkable 12-minute hat-trick, leading Manchester United to a 3-1 victory against Southampton, who currently sit at the bottom of the Premier League, on Thursday.
The match took place at Old Trafford, where Ruben Amorim's team appeared headed for a fourth consecutive league defeat before Diallo's late-game heroics turned the tide. He equalized in the 82nd minute, put United ahead eight minutes later, and completed his hat-trick deep into stoppage time.
Southampton initially took the lead with a Manuel Ugarte own goal just before halftime and had several opportunities to extend their advantage. Despite the setback, Diallo's performance ultimately secured a morale-boosting win for United, who had recently secured an FA Cup victory against Arsenal and drawn with league leaders Liverpool.
After a slow start, United had a chance to score in the 20th minute but Alejandro Garnacho missed the target. Southampton, with only one league win this season, played confidently and created multiple scoring opportunities, including a double save from United's Andre Onana.
Southampton's goal came in the 43rd minute when Matheus Fernandes's corner was flicked on by Tyler Dibling, resulting in an unfortunate own goal by Ugarte. At halftime, Amorim made a controversial decision to substitute under-performing Antony for Kobbie Mainoo.
After a series of substitutions, United began to gain momentum, with Diallo eventually breaking through in the 82nd minute and then scoring two more goals in quick succession. This win elevates Manchester United to 12th place in the Premier League, while Southampton remains ten points adrift of safety.
In other matches, Brighton achieved a 2-0 away victory over Ipswich, with goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter.
