Hoffenheim Exits European Competition with Impressive Victory

A stunning 4-3 victory away at Anderlecht proved insufficient for Hoffenheim, as their Europa League campaign came to an end.

David Mokwa scored in his first two European appearances, contributing to the match's excitement.

The match was critical for Anderlecht, who aimed to avoid the playoff round. In front of a sold-out crowd at Lotto Park, coach David Hubert fielded his strongest lineup to secure a place in the top eight.

Hoffenheim's chances of continuing in Europe depended on other results, with coach Christian Ilzer managing the absence of nearly a dozen first-team players, including Andrej Kramaric, who was not included in the matchday squad.

It was no surprise when Luis Vázquez opened the scoring for the hosts, as the Argentine striker beat the offside trap and curled in a beautiful strike. However, Hoffenheim equalized at halftime with a set-piece, as Killian Sardella failed to clear a header from Europa League debutant Robin Hranac.

In a remarkable turnaround, Hoffenheim took a 4-1 lead within 11 minutes of the second half. Bayern-bound Tom Bischof scored from outside the box in the 54th minute, followed by goals from youngster David Mokwa and Adam Hložek, who netted his fourth goal in as many games.

19-year-old Japanese striker Keisuke Goto reduced the deficit shortly after his introduction, and Ludwig Augustinsson's goal made for a tense finish for Hoffenheim.

Despite the late pressure, Hoffenheim held on to secure only their second win of the season. However, finishing in 27th place was not enough to extend their European journey. Anderlecht, meanwhile, fell out of the top eight but will participate in the playoff phase.
